What Do I Do if the System is Down?

The most important thing is to not panic. You can try the following:

• Try a different computer--perhaps even a different site--just to be sure it's the server and not your computer. Note that ITS operates at least one public computing site, so access to a working computer should never be an issue.
• Try again a few minutes later -- maybe it's just a temporary problem.
• If it's during the day, give me a call (x5212) and I'll see what I can do.
• If it appears to be a campus network problem, call the student help desk (x5506) or email help@lafayette.edu and ask for help.
• If it appears to be a problem at the MasteringPhysics site, don't call the Help Desk. Use the MasteringPhysics 'Help' link or, if that doesn't work, call me instead (x5212).
• If you can somehow find out what the problems are, you can solve the corresponding textbook problems the old-fashioned way with pencil and paper and submit those answers instead.
• If it's during the evening, send me an email, or leave a message on my voice mail (x5212) stating the problem. That way you'll have at least registered your attempt to do the problems.

Above all, don't panic. Be patient. You will not be penalized for not being able to do an assignment when the system is down. Most likely, I will just extend the due date.
