Physics 133 Fall 2023 Textbook Information

You will need three items for this course: the textbook, the on-line homework component, and the lab manual. If you bought the full-year package for Phys 131 or 151, then you should only need the lab manual.

Text and Online Component

The textbook is University Physics with Modern Physics, 15th edition by Hugh D. Young and Roger A Freedman. The on-line component is Modified Mastering Physics. The on-line component includes an e-text. If you would like a printed version, the textbook is the same one that has been used for the past several years at Lafayette in Phys 131/133/151/152, so used copies may be available. Alternatively, you can buy or rent a printed version online.

At the publisher's website, you can find various bundles, depending on whether you want a printed copy of the text in addition to the e-text, and whether you will be taking one semester or two semesters. Shortly before classes start, you will also be able to purchase, activate, and access your account from our Moodle site. Click on the 'Mastering Physics' link to get started.

Wherever you purchase your materials, be sure to follow the instructions for registering through our Moodle site. You do not need a Course ID. When you register through our Moodle site, you will automatically be registered for the correct course.

If you are considering buying a used text or a text from another source, be aware that you still will need to buy the on-line Modified Mastering part. You will likely find a confusing array of ISBN numbers that refer to different packages of the text with various optional components. The only required parts are the text itself (15th edition) and the on-line Modified Mastering component.
