15NaS_250MPa_17Feb06

This run features an aqueous solution that is approximately 15.5 wt.% Na2SO4. Initially, the pressure was about 250 MPa. Much of the run is out of focus, but around 06/02/22 13:46:59, the focus was fixed.

In this run, the interface between the mercury and the solution was in the connecting tubing down inside the cooler. Since the melting point of mercury at this pressure is about 247 K, the transition in the image around 247 K is likely due to the mercury melting, not a phase change in the sample.

The clear reversible transition around 251 K is above the melting point of mercury, so that transition (which is accompanied by visual changes in the image) does correspond to a phase transition in the sodium sulfate solution.
