Statics and Dynamics of Interfacial Motion in a Porous Medium.

Much of this work was done along with Lafayette students Nickoli Neshkov ('96) and Nathan Carle ('99).

This figure shows an image of an air/water interface in a model porous medium. The medium is made of small glass beads held between two closely-spaced Plexiglass plates. The water is dark in the image, and is moving slowly upward.

We have studied both the static shape and the dynamic motion of the interface both through experiments and models.
